Located in front of the Wilderville store and post office is an E Clampus Vitus marker that reads:
Wilderville Post OfficeOne of the oldest Post Offices still standing in operation in what would have been the State of Jefferson if Japan had not attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941.
This Post Office was established in what was called Slate Creek. It was established as Slate Creek Post Office in May 1858, when a regular tri-weekly stage began running. The name was not officially changed to Wilderville Post Office until 1878.

E Clampus Vitus
There is a citizen memorial plaque under the ECV verbiage memorializing a former Clamper.
There is also no sign outside the store noting it as a post office. Patrons of the store only know that it's a post office upon entering.
