This arched entry looks strange standing in the grass well inside and about 100 yards east of the main entry to the cemetery, but it marks the historic entrance to this cemetery, which has been greatly expanded to serve Rockwall from the 19th century into the 21st.
The cemetery is located ion the north end of what was the original cemetery reservation near the oldest graves. It;s stuck by itself in a field of grass, but you can see the signs of a long ago street that have access to the burial ground. Although that road is now fenced off as private property, this arch provides the clue of a former public right of way.
