"Between Nevada's Excelsior Range and the cold, bald pates of the Monte Cristos, lies a harsh world of sullen salt flats and grim mountains, warped in the fiery crucible of Earth's creation." - Nell Murbarger, Ghosts of the Glory Trail.

In 1956, Ms Murgarger describe the setting for Candelaria and six 'somnolent' sister ghost towns. Candelaria's heyday was during the 1870s and 1880s and had met its demise by the turn of the century. In 1882 water was finally, piped to Cadelaria from Trail Canyon in the White Mountains, dropping the price from a dollar per gallon to 5 cents per gallon.

The cemetery has long been abandoned. The earliest grave markers where wood - long gone or impossible to read. A couple stone markers survive (pictures). Some of the wood borders around graves had very well crafted mitered corners.
