[EN] "Popularly it is called the" Bur "and is considered one of the landmarks of Bassenheim. Martinsquelle ", the real name of the iron-containing sour well, was first adopted in 1742 and since then has been available to the public as valuable drinking water free of charge.
Today's petite fountain pavilion with its cast-iron columns was built in 1890 by Freiherr Heinrich von Kusserow, who had married an adopted daughter of the couple Abraham von Oppenheim. When the corrugated iron of the octagonal well room began to rot near the ground, the building received in 1952 a 35cm thick and 75cm high base masonry. In 1985, the municipality bought the entire castle grounds from the Waldthausen administration. During renovation in 1986, the plinth wall was removed and the original state restored by new corrugated sheets, which had to be worked by hand. So the fountain pavilion has been resurrected in its beauty.
The sour well is regularly analyzed and examined for harmful substances. According to experts, the water is healthy and of excellent quality.
