Errichtet im Zuge des Wiederaufbaues nach dem Brand von 1450 zählt der Goldene Adler am Unteren Stadtplatz zu den ältesten und – durch seinen Laubenvorbau – auch stattlichsten Gasthäusern von Innsbruck. Die spätgotischen Fassadenfresken wurden 1957/64 wiederentdeckt. Als Vorbild für das Wirtshausschild diente der schwarze Doppeladler des Heiligen Römischen Reiches und seiner Kaiser. Die Marmortafeln unter den Lauben künden von zahlreichen Persönlichkeiten, die hier abgestiegen sind.

Rebuilt after the fire of 1450, the Goldener Adler on the Old Town Square is one of the oldest and, thanks to its arcade, one of Innsbruck's most majestic inns. The late Gothic frescoes on the facade were rediscovered between 1957 and 1964. The sign of the inn includes the double golden eagle of the Holy Roman Empire and its emperors. The marble panels under the arcades list many personalities who frequented the inn.
