There are several flora and fauna information signs in the Flint Hills of Kansas, as befits this interesting and unique ecosystem in KS.
This sign is located at a scenic pull-out in the Flint Hills along the Kansas Turnpike.
This waymarked sign reads:
"TALLGRASS PRAIRIE
The Flint Hills are the largest remaining intact tallgrass prairie in the world and stretches from northern Kansas into Oklahoma. hey are named for the flint that lies under the rich prairie grass, along with limestone and shale. Each summer cattle from as afar away as Mexico graze these hillsides where hundreds of thousands of bison once roamed."

"KTA invites public to Bazaar Cattle Pen grand opening
WICHITA, Kan.—Kansas Turnpike Authority extends an invitation to the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony of the Bazaar Cattle Pens, located at mile marker 111 on Interstate 35/KTA (60 miles NE of Wichita or 16 miles SW of Emporia) in the Flint Hills. The event will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 and will include remarks from Governor Sam Brownback.
The project included safety enhancements to the ramps serving large cattle trucks that transport livestock to and from the location. It also now includes a scenic overlook that allows travelers an opportunity to pull over and view the majestic Flint Hills.
“Not only did this project improve on safety aspects, which is an important KTA value, but it also gives our customers a way to take in the beauty of the Flint Hills,” said Steve Hewitt, KTA CEO. “The view is simply breathtaking.”
