"TALLGRASS PRAIRIE
One of the largest continuous pieces of Tallgrass prairie in the world is preserved by the shallow limestone layers of the Kansas Flint Hills. This grassland is approximately 40 miles wide and stretches through Kansas from northern Oklahoma to Nebraska. These scenic hills are easily viewed along the Kansas Turnpike between here and Emporia. Tallgrass prairie is characterized by grasses that typically grow over 3 feet tall. Big Bluestem is the tallest, reaching heights of 10 feet!"
