The black cemetery has been here since 1889. The new arched entry with the name was just added in 2015 when TXDOT purchased some of the cemetery land to widen the road out front.

The perimeter of the cemetery is lined with trees. There are lots of unmarked graves. Several of the oldest plots that do have headstones date back to the 1890s.
