The plaque reads:

	WOLLOMAI
[Drawing] [Photo]
	Winner: Melbourne Cup 1875

	Owner: Captain John Cleeland
Trainer: S. Moon	Jockey: R. Batty

Wollomai was bred by Captain John Cleeland
He was trained and stabled at Cape Woolamai where John Cleeland
lived with his family at Woolamai House.

When the time came to go to Melbourne to race in the cup,
they swam across the channel from Newhaven to San Remo and
then walked him to Flemington Racecourse.

1875 was the first time the Melbourne Cup had been run on a Tuesday
therefore Wollomai had the honour of heralding the now famous
		'First Tuesday in November'
