Hofgarten is a park north of the old town of Düsseldorf. A central element of the park is the pond dammed river Nördliche Düssel, which then flows into the river Rhine. One of these ponds, named after the fortification "Landskrone" that used to be there, is crossed here by the bridge "Goldene Brücke" (translating to "Golden Bridge")

The bridge was built in 1809 to plans by the architect Adolph von Vagedes, making it the oldest preserved pedestrian bridge in Düsseldorf. In 1820, the bridge railing was painted in gold bronze and the bridge has since been named "Goldene Brücke". In 1845 it was rebuilt to the plans of the architect Anton Schnitzler and got its present form consisting of supporting steel arches and wooden planks.

The bridge has been restored and refurbished several times, most recently in 2015/2016. Therefore, it is currently in excellent condition and is very pretty.
