The Lewis Hotel/Saloon building survives from the commercial development period following the arrival of the railroad to Bountiful.

The railroad arrived in Bountiful in 1870, pushing north from Salt Lake City to meet the Union Pacific mainline in northern Utah. This opened Bountiful up to a decade of commercial development and the demand for accommodations for travellers. The Lewis Hotel and Saloon provided rooms and entertainment for visitors on the north end of town. The building is a brick two part block and was constructed in 1890. To accommodate two floors, the lower floor is a semi-basement. The arched lower windows, although now filled in, can still be seen at sidewalk level. The upper floor was entered from a raised front porch. The porch is long gone leaving the front door curiously marooned in the center of the building. An unusual porthole window faces Second North to the rear of the building.
