DVOR/DME HOC - Hochwald, SO, Switzerland - Ground Based Air Navigation Support Structures on Waymarking.com

EN: The station HOC (for Hochwald) is located on a dirt road about one kilometer south of Gempen and about two kilometers north-east of Hochwald. The single-storey building has a diameter of 10 meters and the outline of a circle with an opening of about 120°, the polygonal grid structure of the antenna is about four meters high and has a diameter of 30 meters. The station has no labels, neither on the fence nor on the building.

The DVOR station broadcasted on channel 79X on frequency 113.2 MHz. The DME elevation is 2425 ft. In August 2016, the DVOR section was switched off, but the DME part of the station is still active.

I could not find out when the station was put into operation. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but only about three kilometers away is the crash site of Invicta International Airways Flight 435, where 108 people lost their lives on April 10, 1973. This worst flight accident in Switzerland until today had been caused by navigation errors during heavy snow drifts, the pilots thought they were on the landing approach to the Basel-Mulhouse airport 10 km north of here.

DE: Die Station HOC (für Hochwald) befindet sich an einem Feldweg etwa einen Kilometer südlich von Gempen und rund zwei Kilometer nordöstlich von Hochwald. Das einstöckige Gebäude hat einen Durchmesser von 10 Metern und hat den Grundriss eines Kreises mit einer Öffnung von etwa 120°, die sechzehneckige Gitterstruktur der Antenne liegt etwa vier Meter hoch und hat einen Durchmesser von 30 Metern. Die Station hat keinerlei Beschriftungen, weder am Zaun noch am Gebäude.

Die DVOR Station sendete auf der Frequenz 113.2 MHz auf Channel 79X. Die DME elevation ist 2425 ft. Im August 2016 wurde der DVOR-Teil abgeschaltet, der DME-Sender der Station ist aber noch aktiv.

Wann die Station in Betrieb genommen wurde, konnte ich nicht in Erfahrung bringen. Vielleicht ist es ein Zufall, aber nur etwa drei Kilometer entfernt befindet sich der Absturzort von Invicta-International-Airways-Flug 435, wo ab 10. April 1973 108 Menschen ihr Leben verloren. Dieser bis heute schlimmste Flugunfall der Schweiz hatte seine Ursache in Navigationsfehlern während starkem Schneetreiben, die Piloten dachten, sie befinden sich im Landeanflug auf den 10 Kilometer nördlich gelegenen Flughafen Basel-Mulhouse.
