If there is a Southernmost Point marker in Key West, Florida, why not a Northernmost Point marker on the Northwest Angle? The Lake of the Woods County Board got behind the project, and several local organizations made it happen. In spring 2017, this massive monument appeared, perfect for photo ops.
The Northernmost Point marker is at Young's Bay. It is a large concrete buoy, painted in horizontal stripes of yellow, blue, white, green, and black. In the top band is an outline map of the state of Minnesota. In the lowest stripe is a representation of a fish.
As with the Southernmost Point marker, there is a little poetic license here. The actual northernmost point in the lower 48 is a bit northwest of here, but is only accessible by boat or snowmobile.
