This statue of Abraham Lincoln is called "The Rail Joiner" depicts a young Lincoln joining two fence rails symbolic of Lincoln rejoining the North and South. The original of this sculpture by Louis Slobodkin was completed in the 1930's and it stands in the Department of Interior in Washington D.C. The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery received a plaster cast of the sculpture and the right to reproduce it. A community-wide effort to raise funding included "including a "Pennies for Lincoln " campaign by Lincoln school children, funded the placement of this statue.
