This memorial to the American Army soldiers, Navy sailors, Air Force airmen, and US Marines, with their comrades in the Royal British Marines and South Korean Army, who fought in the Korean War Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, stands in a place of deep honor at Memorial Circle in the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga TN.
The memorial reads as follows:
"[Chosin Few insignia] [1st Marine Division, USMC insignia] and [USMC insignia]
IN HONOR OF THE CHOSIN FEW
COMBATANTS OF THE BATTLE OF THE CHOSIN RESERVOIR
North Korea, November and December 1950
15,000 Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, British Royal Marines, & South Koreans successfully fought 10 divisions of Chinese and North Koreans in the most severe blizzard of hundred years, destroying 8 divisions and rendering 2 divisions ineffective.
This national veterans group is the recipient of 17 medals of honor, 70 Navy Crosses plus many other distinguished service medals, the most medals ever given for any single US military battle.
Historians record this is the most violent battle of modern warfare in American military history.
We are an eternal band of brothers, bonded in the blood of a forgotten battle, and forgot more. The cost of joining our ranks is beyond all earthly wealth.
