To meet the needs of a growing suburban population in Nepean Archbishop Lemieux formally erected a new parish on May 12, 1962, dedicating it to St. Martin de Porres, who had recently been canonized and who was, like the archbishop himself, a member of the Dominican order.
He also designated the pastor of Fallowfield to be pastor of the new church as well. After worshiping in temporary quarters, the founding pastor, FR. D.D.Macdonald, and the parishoners celebrated the first Mass in the new St. Martin de Porres church on Christmas eve 1963.
