The Coyle school was built in 1924. In 1939, with WPA labor and local school bonding, a rock gymnasium was added to the rear of the school, as well as repairs to the original school. A bronze WPA shield is mounted next to the entrance to the school, memorializing the addition to the rear.
The gymnasium is constructed of native sand stone and has a high barrel roof. A lower flat roofed section to the rear contained additional rooms. The original windows have been covered with metal siding, but the gymnasium appears to be in use by this currently functioning school.
