“A Street In Time”

This public art project was conceived by Mayor Sharon Branstiter as a Toledo Centennial Project, begun in March by community volunteers and dedicated in November of 2005. The figures and motifs are drawn from actual photographes of early Toledo and represent important historical influences.
Designed and directed by Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre & Center for the Arts:
——Lawrence Adrian, CEO — — Artistic direction and mosaic design
——Eric Sappington, Staff Artist — — Principal design and layout
——Laurie Leedy, Staff Artist — — Character design
Major donors include:
——Georgia-Pacific Toledo
——Dennnis & Virginia Moore
——Bob Wienert/Road & Driveway
——West Coast Bank
——Joanne Moore
——Larry Hart Family
——Stuart & Paula Davis
——Umpqua Bank
In addition, more than $7,500 worth of ceramic tile was donated by residents and friends of Toledo.
Severa volunteers donated hundreds of hours to the project. Sharon Branstiter, Angelo & Janet Stephenson, Bob Pickell, George U Lisa Daniel, Holly Barnett & Debbie Brandt. More than 1,000 volunteers worked on the project, the youngest 4 years and the oldest 98.
Special thanks to fused glass artists Lynn Bishop, Jeannette Bailor and Susan Moore, who created the flowers for the hanging baskets.
At the time of its completion, it is the largest outdoor tile mural in the Northwest at 18’ x 96’. The mural is a lasting reminder of a very special year in the life of Toledo when wee appriciated our friends and neighbors pas and present and explored what makes this place “home”.
