The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is located at Pemberton Place in downtown Atlanta, near many of the most popular tourist attractions in the city such as Centennial park, the World of Cocoa Cola, CNN Center, and the Georgia Aquarium.

A recreation of Dr. Martin Luther King's Library (no photography allowed) is located on the first floor of the museum. Many of the exhibits on the US Civil Rights movement feature his contributions to that struggle. We bought a complete copy of Dr. King's Letter from the Birmingham Jail in the gift shop.

Upper floors explore the relationships between the US Civil Rights movement and movements for human rights around the world.

From the Center for Civil and Human Rights website: (visit link)

"A BRIEF HISTORY

The Center was first imagined by civil rights legends Evelyn Lowery and former United Nations Ambassador Andrew Young and was launched by former Mayor Shirley Franklin. The effort gained broad-based corporate and community support to become one of the few places in the world educating visitors on the bridge between the American Civil Rights Movement and the contemporary struggle for Human Rights around the world.

Established in 2007, The Center’s groundbreaking 42,000-square-foot facility is located on Pemberton Place, adjacent to the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium, on land donated by the Coca-Cola Company."
