In the morning of the 11/8/1989 at 10 o'clock a sports airplane crashed near the camping ground on the Rhine shore of Bonn-Mehlem.
The pilot and a passenger died in the wreck of the completely destroyed Cessna F 172.
According to an eye-witness the airplane was on the move in northern direction when it went in the fall flight, touched some trees, crashed only few metres off the Rhine shore and caught fire.
Aboard were the flying instructor Peter Asbach from Cologne and his passenger Ralf Baldingen from Bad Godesberg. Both passengers died in the crash.
The accident cause remained unsettled. One supposes that the pilot has suffered a medical predicament and lost control of the airplane.
Later the wife of the pilot established a memorial stone tablet of marble for both airmen in the site of the crash.
