This plaque is hard to see in the busling downtown area. It reads:
Site of The First Building
Here in 1871, the town and farm lots of Andrew Glassell IV and Alfred B Chpman were offered to prospective buyers by the tract's resident agent, Captain William T Glassell. Agent Glassell maintained two seedling orange trees in front of his office residence as curiosities to entice settlers. |
