Located at 33 Sunset Drive NW, this is a one-story armory constructed of rusticated native sandstone. The stones which are gray and buff in color are laid randomly. The windows are tall and have angled stone sills. Some windows have been filled in with tan-colored sheeting, and the overhead doors on the north and south wings have also been painted tan.
The central portion with the drill floor has a barrel roof. Wings to the north and south contain offices and administrative facilities for the current museum.
A cornerstone set chest-high on the wall north of the entrance reads: "STATE ARMORY / Built by Works Progress Administration / 1936 / W.S. Key / State Administrator".
