A restored chancel with a dedicatory plain rectangular stone tablet with an inscription in black lettering. Below is a wooden cross with Peyton's name written on it.
Inscription -
THE CHANCEL OF THIS CHURCH/ WAS REDESIGNED/ A.D. 1951/ TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF/ JOHN HENRY PEYTON/ LT KING'S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS/ WHO GAVE HIS LIFE FOR HIS COUNTRY/ 13TH APRIL 1945./ "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS"
"John was the son of Maj. Sir Algernon Thomason, 7th Bt and Lady Pe on nee Dugdale. He left Eton in 1941 and was commissioned into the KRR serial no 256086, He was KIA aged 21 and is buried in Becklingen War Cemetery, nr. Saltau. "
