Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1937 Slingerland 401 Spanish amplified guitar. A nearby placard reads:

Many of the features of later electric guitars were put into place on the 1937 Slingerland. Its solid-wood body, size, and the pickups' individual magnets for each string all foreshadow guitars that would be built after World War II. However, the Slingerland company was far better known for the drums it produced.
