Washington traveled on horseback along Main Street in Agawam, MA on June 30, 1775 while en-route to Cambridge to take command of the Continental Army. The journey took Washington from Philadelphia, up the Connecticut River Valley, through Hartford, CT, and into Massachusetts before fording the Westfield River in Agawam and the taking the ferry across Connecticut River in West Springfield. He continued on to Cambridge, MA via the Boston Post Road to take command of the Continental Army on July 3, 1775.
