Once the cross in front of the gate house of the abbey Heisterbach marked the beginning of the "Heisterbacher Bittweg" up to the pilgrimage chapel on the Peterberg.
The cross from 1644 is four metres high and stands on a base from latite under two very wide beeches at the encirclement wall of the cloister. The base is in very bad state.
The cross trunk carries the initial INRI above the crossbeam. In the centre of the cross beam the letters ESS stand above an anchor. This inscription in the middle section of the cross registers that it concerns a common endowment of several stonecutters.
