At the corner of East Drive and Hornady Street is the Fletcher High School campus. At the center of the campus, behind newer buildings, this red brick WPA school gym and auditorium stands firm, anchoring the complex. It was built in 1938 with an appropriation of $27,270.
All original windows have been bricked in. The north and south walls have slightly projected brick pilasters between each of the bricked window units. The west wall has a row of soldier bricks in a lighter, redder color, and on the upper wall, a set of six concrete decorative blocks. Single door entrances are located at each end of the west wall, as well as at the east end of the north and south sides. A metal siding facing has been added at the roof line, with a low sloping gable roof.
The building is still in use by the high school. The top photo on the link shown below shows the building in 1987, before any of the surrounding buildings were erected.
