A separate monument to the Mississippians who volunteered to fight in the Spanish-American war was at some point relocated to the grounds of the War Memorial building which was built in 1939. The Spanish-American war Memorial stands alone on the north side of the building.
The monument is inscribed as follows:
"Honor to heroes is glory to God.
[Logo of Spanish-American War Veterans Association]
Erected in honor of the Mississippi volunteers in the war with Spain
1898"
