FR A la suite d'une superbe allée de platanes, sur votre droite vous pourrez contempler cette merveilleuse petite chapelle. Celle-ci faisait partie du parc du château. Construite au XVIe siècle, elle renferme un buste reliquaire du saint et une fresque murale moderne.

Cette chapelle est dédiée à Saint Christophe le "Saint patron" du village de La Tour d'Aigues. Elle est édifiée en bordure de l'important "chemin de Grambois" vers Forcalquier car Saint Christophe est le protecteur des voyageurs.

Construite en 1558 par le baron Jean Louis Nicolas de Bouliers Cental à l'époque des grands travaux qui transformèrent le château médiéval en superbe demeure Renaissance, elle est ordonnée selon un plan très simple : une seule nef terminée par une abside semi-circulaire.

La dévotion à Saint Christophe s'appuyait sur une importante confrérie. Elle se manifestait notamment par une grande procession annuelle organisée à la suite d'un "vœu" fait par la communauté villageoise. Ce vœu d'aller en procession "annuellement et perpétuellement avant la Saint Jean Baptiste", fut prononcé le 6 Juillet 1711, au cours d'un orage de grêle particulièrement violent.

La situation géographique de la chapelle, à l'origine accessible à tous mais par la suite englobée dans le parc du château , posa problème. Un projet de déplacement du sanctuaire, au début du XVIIe siècle, resta sans suite. Au siècle suivant un véritable conflit opposa la communauté villageoise au seigneur Jean Baptiste Jérôme de Bruny : le procès intenté par ce baron en 1778, visant à interdire l'accès au parc, n'était pas terminé au début de la Révolution.

L'état actuel de la chapelle résultat d'une restauration effectuée en 1972 par le curé Maxime Teissier, à cette occasion l'abside a été décorée d'une peinture murale exécutée par un tourain : Bernard Philibert. Auparavant l'édifice présentait deux fenêtres en façade, fermées par des grilles, de part et d'autre de la porte. Un état antérieur mentionne aussi un porche.

This chapel is dedicated to Saint Christophe the "patron saint" of the village of La Tour d'Aigues. It is built on the edge of the important "chemin de Grambois" towards Forcalquier because Saint Christophe is the protector of the travelers.

Built in 1558 by Baron Jean Louis Nicolas of Bouliers Cental in the period of the great works that transformed the medieval castle into a superb Renaissance residence, it is ordered according to a very simple plan: a single nave terminated by a semicircular apse.

Devotion to Saint Christophe was based on an important brotherhood. It manifested itself in particular in a large annual procession organized following a "vow" made by the village community. This vow to go in procession "annually and perpetually before the Saint John the Baptist", was pronounced on 6 July 1711, during a particularly violent hailstorm.

The geographical situation of the chapel, originally accessible to all but subsequently encompassed in the castle park, posed a problem. A project to move the sanctuary at the beginning of the seventeenth century remained unanswered. In the following century, a real conflict broke out between the village community and Lord Jean Baptiste Jérôme de Bruny. The baron's lawsuit in 1778 aimed at prohibiting access to the park was not completed at the beginning of the Revolution.

The present state of the chapel is the result of a restoration carried out in 1972 by the parish priest Maxime Teissier. On this occasion, the apse was decorated with a mural painted by a tourain: Bernard Philibert. In the past the building had two front windows, closed by gates, on either side of the door. A previous state also mentions a porch.
