Cette fontaine, construite à la fin du XIXe siècle, possède un réservoir souterrain qui sert toujours aujourd'hui à alimenter la ville en eau potable.
A la suite de sa construction, la ville lance un concours pour orner la fontaine. Les sculptures sont réalisées par Alexandre Falguière, associé à l'architecte Edouard de Perthes.
Le sculpteur animalier Victor Peter réalise le cheval et le boeuf ainsi que deux personnages qui symbolisent l'Agriculture et l'Elevage, tandis qu'Alphonse Guilloux réalise les enfants, figuration des eaux du Robec et de l'Aubette.
La figure centrale symbolise la Ville de Rouen sur un navire qui vogue sur le Robec et l'Aubette.
Elle fut inaugurée le 26 octobre 1879. L'ensemble était éclairé au gaz, puis électrifié en 1919. Le système de commande est supprimé en 1977. Les Amis des Monuments Rouennais permettent en 1914 une remise en état. La dernière restauration a lieu en 1983 par l'entreprise Lanfry.

This fountain, built at the end of the 19th century, has an underground reservoir that is still used today to supply drinking water to the city.
Following its construction, the city launched a competition to decorate the fountain. The sculptures are made by Alexandre Falguière, associated with the architect Edouard de Perthes.
The animal sculptor Victor Peter realizes the horse and the beef as well as two personages who symbolize the Agriculture and the Breeding, while Alphonse Guilloux realizes the children, figuration of the waters of the Robec and the Aubette.
The central figure symbolizes the City of Rouen on a ship that sails on the Robec and the Aubette.
It was inaugurated on October 26, 1879. The whole was lit by gas, then electrified in 1919. The control system was suppressed in 1977. The Friends of the Monuments Rouennais allow in 1914 a rehabilitation. The last restoration took place in 1983 by the company Lanfry.
