The baroque gate building of the old Cistercian's abbey Heisterbach was built in 1750 during its last period of bloom under the abbot Augustin Mengelberg (abbot from 1748 to 1763).
After a fire in 1917 the upper garret area with hipped roof was rebuilt.
In the tympanum is the coat of arms of the abbey, a tree (Heister) with at an angle fluent brook, mitre, stick and crown.
By half a height of the gate house the founders of the Benedictine order and the Cistercian order stand in the niches in full-size stone figures.
