 Founded around 875 by Benedictine monks, it became Cluniac around 930-940.
In 1040, it was reduced to a priory. In 1094, the third church, St Fortuné, was built. At the Revolution, all buildings were sold as national property. The church was destroyed around 1800, today only its foundations remain.
The ensemble was restored between 1989 and 1999.
The narthex by chance has not been destroyed. The main entrance, to the north (for reasons of space), has a magnificent tympanum and a lintel, alas most of the characters have been disfigured.
To the right of the main portal is a smaller portal, which is also a masterpiece; The tympanum does not represent the Last Supper as one might think but the wedding of Cana.
The two small "museums" of the abbey contain beautiful sculpted pieces, churches of the region or even Charlieu, and numerous representations of the Virgin (wood, stone, alone, child, 'bird).

En 1040, elle est réduite en prieuré. En 1094, la troisième église, St Fortuné, est construite. A la Révolution, tous les bâtiments sont vendus comme biens nationaux. L'église est détruite vers 1800, aujourd'hui seules subsistent ses fondations.
L'ensemble a été restauré entre 1989 et 1999.
Le narthex par chance n'a pas été détruit. L'entrée principale, au nord (pour des raisons de place), possède un tympan et un linteau magnifiques, hélas la plupart des personnages ont été défigurés.
A droite du portail principal se trouve un portail plus petit, qui est également un chef-d'oeuvre; le tympan ne représente pas la Cène comme on pourrait le croire mais les noces de Cana.
Les deux petits "musées" de l'abbaye contiennent de belles pièces sculptées, d'églises de la région ou de Charlieu même, et de nombreuses représentations de la Vierge (en bois, en pierre, seule, à l'enfant, à l'oiseau).
