Hand pumps are manually operated pumps; they use human power and mechanical advantage to move fluids or air from one place to another. This pump construction form was partially used till the 1950s to the water supply, until modern infrastructure was created.
In Bornheim-Widdig a public pump has been preserved. It exists of cast iron and dispose of a single force rod. Its shaft is formed as an Ionic column without capital and stands on a rectangular foundation. A sign informs extensively about the pump.
This pump in front of the house "Römerstraße 86" was restored and is an architectural historical monument listed as No. 205 in "Liste der Baudenkmäler in Widdig".
