Hand pumps are manually operated pumps; they use human power and mechanical advantage to move fluids or air from one place to another. This pump construction form was partially used till the 1950s to the water supply, until modern infrastructure was created.
In Wesseling some public pumps have been preserved. They exist of cast iron and dispose of a single force rod.
This pump at the street corner "Kapellenweg/Bergerstrasse" was restored in the mid 1980s. It may be the pump that is quoted as the missing architectural historical monument listed as No. 59 in "Liste der Baudenkmäler in Wesseling". In that case its original location was Entenfangstr. 12.
