Bright’s Inn, a stagecoach stop near the Wilderness Road, was built in 1815 by Capt. John Bright. The original inn was constructed of logs, and, in 1820, a two-story limestone addition was built for travelers going from Lexington to the Cumberland Gap. Visitors to the inn included Isaac Shelby, George Rogers Clark & Henry Clay.
