Jared Welcome who does business under the name JareBear Carvings was commissioned by the town Public Works Department in September 2016 to transform a dead tree on the north side of East End Park. He created a tribute to the town educational system.
The wood carving symbolizes the process of moving through the educational system in town. The bottom of the sculpture begins with alphabet building blocks. Next, is a tribute to the Winchester schools and culminating with Northwest Connecticut Community College and a graduation cap at the top of the sculpture.
