FR Ce lieu de culte est certainement très ancien ; si le christianisme a succédé au paganisme, la dévotion à Marie aurait remplacé ici le culte d'Isis, déesse de la fécondité. Au Moyen-Age, l'existence d'une chapelle rurale est mentionnée dans un acte de donation de 960, confirmé en 1096. L'édifice a été remanié plusieurs fois, et aujourd'hui les parties les plus anciennes ne remontent qu'au XVIIème siècle. En 1972, elle a été restaurée par la Société des Amis de Gréoux qui l'a ainsi sauvée d'une ruine complète.

L'appellation de l'édifice s'explique par une vieille coutume locale : les femmes stériles ou désirant un enfant montaient à la chapelle avec deux œufs. Arrivées sur place, elles devaient en gober un et déposer l'autre dans la chapelle, pour venir le reprendre l'année suivante. Il y a peu de temps encore, on pouvait effectivement voir quelques œufs disposés à l'intérieur, sur les côtés ou dans les niches aménagées.

Aujourd'hui encore, deux pèlerinages sont organisés chaque année : le lundi de Pâques, période où l'on cherche les oeufs, et le 8 septembre.
EN This place of worship is certainly very ancient; If Christianity has succeeded to paganism, devotion to Mary would have replaced here the cult of Isis, the goddess of fertility. In the Middle Ages, the existence of a rural chapel is mentioned in an act of donation of 960, confirmed in 1096. The building has been reworked several times, and today the oldest parts go back only to XVIIth century. In 1972, it was restored by the Society of Friends of Greoux which saved it from a complete ruin.

The name of the building is explained by an old local custom: women sterile or desiring a child went up to the chapel with two eggs. Arrived on the spot, they had to swallow one and drop the other in the chapel, to come to take it back the following year. Until recently, it was possible to see some eggs arranged inside, on the sides or in the niches.

Even today, two pilgrimages are organized each year: Easter Monday, the period for eggs, and September 8th.
