L'Affaire Dominici est sans doute le crime le plus célèbre survenu dans le département habituellement très calme des Basses Alpes.
Dans la nuit du 4 au 5 août 1952, ce couple d'anglais et leur fillettes sont assassinés. Rapidement, la presse est sur place, les anglais exigent un coupable. Le policier en charge d'élucider ce triple meurtre s'acharne sur le patriarche de la famille Dominici qui sera condamné à mort, puis verra sa peine commué en prison en perpétuité avant d'être gracié ... car la justice savait bien qu'il était innocent.
Et les anglais qui exigeaient un coupable ? Et bien ils n'ont même pas réclamés les corps qui sont toujours enterrés en France, dans le cimetière de Forcalquier.
De cette histoire qui a défrayée la chronique criminelle, deux films seront tournés :
* L'Affaire Dominici (1973) de Claude Bernard-Aubert, avec Jean Gabin
* L'Affaire Dominici (2003) de Pierre Boutron, avec Michel Serrault, Michel Blanc
Pour tenir le rôle du patriarche, Jean Gabin, l'un des plus grands acteurs de sa génération (95 films) puis, 30 ans plus tard, Michel Serrault (135 films dont 3 Césars du meilleur acteur) ... que ces deux très grands personnages soient les deux acteurs à s'être succédé dans le rôle donne une idée de l'importance de ce crime.
