The memorial of portland stone, designed by Mr Francis W Reckett, consists of a paving stone sub-base platform surmounted by a two-stepped square base, collar, and rectangular sectioned shaft with an encircled St. John cross. Midway up the shaft is a cube-shaped block with an incised slate inscription tablet recessed into the front face. The whole memorial stands within a gravelled enclosure, bordered by a hedge to the rear & sides, with a post & chain boundary to the frontage pavement.
