Title: Picnic pavilian at Maplewood Park.
Photographer/Artist: Stone, Albert R., 1866-1934.
Date: 1916?
Collection: Albert R. Stone Negative Collection, Rochester Museum & Science Center.
Summary: The stone picnic pavilion at Maplewood Park sits very close to the unfenced edge of the Genesee river gorge. After one girl was killed and a boy injured, the Rochester Safely Council will compel the city to install fencing to keep children from falling.

This picture was taken facing North, presumably from atop the Driving Park Bridge, as that is the only possible angle to look down at the structure. Now days all that remains of the picnic pavilion is nothing more than some bricks and masonry. The area is surrounded by trees, and the pavilion will only be visible from the bridge during the winter months.

There are still paths and trails that lead down to the base of the gorge and the Genesee River. It is a popular destination for fishing from the shore, and by boat. Nearby to the West sits Maplewood Park, which is an excellent place to park and take in the view of the gorge.

The Driving Park Bridge over the river is 212 Feet high, making it higher than 176 Foot Niagara Falls.
