Die Gestaltung des Gebäude erschiedenen Bauelementen und farbigen Steinarten wird durch einen Abbwechslungsreichen Bauschmuck ergänzt.
Neben schmückenden Architekturelementen wie Dreipässen, Knospenkapitellen und Rosetten finden sich Wappendarstellungen und Figuren am Schlossgebäude.
Für die Spitzbogennischen am oberen Abschluss des Nordturms fertigte der Kölner Bildhauer Wilhelm Albermann (1835-1913) Sandsteinfiguren,
die deutsche Künstler des Mittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit darstellen: im Osten befindet sich der Maler und Kupferstecher Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), im Süden der Nürnberger Bildhauer Peter Vischer (um 1460-1529), an der rheinseitigen Westwand der Dichter Wolfram von Eschenbach (um 1160/80 - um/nach 1220) und nördlich in Richtung Köln der Baumeister des Kölner Dorns Gerhard von Rile (tum 1271).
Den nordöstlichen Giebel des Kernbaus ziert ein Relief mit der Darstellung der Loreley. Zusammen mit einem Relief der Drachenfelsjungfer auf der gegenüberliegenden Westseite und der Figur des Helden Siegfried mit dem getöteten Drachen an der Wandfläche links neben dem Portikus nehmen diese Bildnisse Bezug auf die regionale Sagenwelt.
An der Südfassade befinden sich zudem drei Baldachinfiguren des Kölner Dombildhauers Peter Fuchs (1829-1898), die an Heiligenfiguren gotischer Kirchen erinnern. Es sind allerdings weltliche Herrscher dargestellt: Julius Cäsar (100-44 v. Chr.) in der Giebelspitze, Karl der Große (747-814) links und Kaiser Wilhelm 1. (1797-1888) rechts verkörpern "die staatliche Entwicklung der Rheinlande" (Froelss, 1884).

The painter and engraver Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), the sculptor Peter Vischer (around 1460-1529) in the south, and the poet Wolfram von Eschenbach on the west side of the wall (Around 1160/80 - around / after 1220) and north in the direction of Cologne the master builder of the Cologne Dorn of Gerhard von Rile (tum 1271).
The northeastern pediment of the core building is adorned with a relief depicting the Loreley. Together with a relief of the Drachenfelsjungfer on the opposite west side and the figure of the hero Siegfried with the killed dragon on the wall to the left of the portico, these portraits refer to the regional world of legends.
On the southern façade there are also three canopy figures by the Cologne cathedral sculptor Peter Fuchs (1829-1898), who recall the sacred figures of gothic churches. However, secular rulers are represented: Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) in the gable top, Charlemagne (747-814) left and Kaiser Wilhelm 1st (1797-1888) on the right embody "the state development of the Rhineland" (Froelss, 1884).
