Holy Cross Church was built in 1896 of locally quarried limestone from the Shannon Quarry. At the time the church was built the country was going through a depression and very little building was taking place. A member of the church James Shannon donated the stone and help from his quarry. As a result the church was built for $12,000. The church building is of a Gothic design with vaulted ceiling and distinctive stained glass windows. In 1996 the church building was purchased by the Batavia Parks Distict and converted into a community center.
