“Vera Powelson Jones Poe gracefully rejoined her eternal companion April 11, 2009 at the age of 88. She died of natural causes at the American Fork Hospital in Utah.
Vera's wonderful life began March 17, 1921 in Byron, Wyoming, the seventh child born to Ellis and Ruth Powelson. Vera graduated from Brigham Young University in June of 1942. She married Que D. Jones August 29, 1942. He joined the Army Air Corp shortly after their marriage and was a pilot of a B-24 bomber in World War II. He was killed in action over Italy, April 28, 1944.
For 24 years, Vera enjoyed teaching elementary school in Wyoming, Oregon, and Montana as she raised her son, Craig D. Jones. She was a lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with years of dedicated service in the MIA, Primary and Relief Society organizations.
She married William "Bill" Poe on July 1, 1968, settling in Lovell, Wyoming. They devotedly spoiled their grandchildren for many years. After Bill's death May 9, 1997, Vera remained in Lovell until 2005, at which time she moved to Utah to be near her son and relatives. Vera had a gift for caring, never missing an opportunity to serve family, friends, or strangers. Her family rejoices that she is reunited with the love of her life. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered as an elegant, beautiful, and faithful woman who deeply touched the lives of everyone she knew.”
