The history of the flag is probably as little known as the origin of the village name. The village developed from a secluded farm, which was mentioned for the first time in 1371. Around 1600 there were two farms, in 1629 three, then the population grew steadily and in 1789 Fehren became an independent municipality.
There are two interpretations for the name. One refers to the pine forest ("Föhre" in German) between Fehren and its former mother municipality Breitenbach, the other to the distance: the farm that is "far" from the village. The flag looks like combining both possibilities.
I found the flag several times on the main road, alternating with the ones of Solothurn and Switzerland. The given coordinate is the flag approximately at the bus stop in the town center.

Die Geschichte der Flagge ist offenbar genau so wenig bekannt wie der Ursprung des Ortsnamens. Das Dorf entwickelte sich aus einem abgelegenen Bauernhof, der 1371 erstmals erwähnt wurde. Um 1600 waren es zwei Höfe, 1629 drei, danach wuchs die Bevölkerung stetig und 1789 wurde Fehren zu einer eigenen Gemeinde.
Es gibt zwei Deutungen für den Namen. Die eine bezieht es auf den Föhrenwald zwischen Fehren und seiner ehemaligen Muttergemeinde Breitenbach, die andere auf die Entfernung: der Hof der fern vom Dorf ist. Die Flagge könnte beide Möglichkeiten kombinieren.
Ich fand die Flagge mehrfach an der Hauptstrasse, abwechselnd mit der von Solothurn und der Schweiz. Die angegebene Koordinate ist die Flagge bei der Bushaltestelle.
