The cemetery is on the list of National Historic Places. It has the gravestones of early settlers and several Revolutionary Soldiers, including Lawrence's father Joshua.

The Mersereau family had several Revolutionary soldiers, many of whom settled in this area. A history of the family can be found here (visit link)

The entire area was Indian Territory before the Revolution. Soldiers were granted land after the war. The late 1700s and early 1800s were the time of settlement.
