The location is that of the Nationalpark-Haus in the town of Berchtesgaden where exciting visits and a wealth of information on the park are offered.

Reaching out from the rocky heights of mounts Watzmann and Hochkalter the Berchtesgaden National Park covers a surface of some 210km². Founded in 1978, the park's aims are nature protection, research, leisure and environmental education.

The park is located in southeast Germany in the Free State of Bavaria and borders on the Austrian state of Salzburg. It is state property in its entirety. Its high mountain landscapes are characterized by extensive forests and steep rock faces.

A total of 230 km of hiking trails network this incomparable nature reserve for those wishing to discover and enjoy nature up close. The park adminstration also organizes numerous activities year-round in which adults and children alike can experience nature with all five senses while learning a lot about the National Park.

Hikes, from easy walks in the valleys to high mountain hikes lasting several days, offer something for everyone. To complete the offer, mountain huts serving refreshments and overnight huts are open in the summer months. You will also find numerous cattle huts that serve fresh milk products during the grazing season.
