Das M’era Luna findet jährlich am zweiten Augustwochenende auf dem Flughafengelände in Hildesheim statt. Es existierte zunächst parallel zum Zillo-Festival, das ursprünglich an diesem Ort stattfand, und trat ab 2000 dessen Nachfolge an, nachdem sich Zillo und die Veranstalter entschieden hatten, getrennte Wege zu gehen. Der Name ist ein Fantasiename, der laut Veranstalter „rund“, „und auch ein wenig international“ klingen soll.[4]

Veranstalter des Festivals ist die Firma FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH, Medienpartner ist das Musikmagazin Sonic Seducer. Der musikalische Schwerpunkt liegt auf Genres wie Elektro, Mittelalter-Rock, Metal, Alternative Rock, Synth Rock und vereinzelt auf Gothic.

An zwei Tagen finden auf einer Open-Air-Bühne und einer Bühne im Hangar Auftritte unterschiedlicher Bands statt. Darüber hinaus gibt es in der Nacht ein Disko-Programm. Seit 2011 finden im Rahmen des Festivals auch Lesungen statt. Als Zeltplatz dienen die Grünflächen beiderseits der Start- und Landebahn.

The M'era Luna is an alternative music festival that encompasses a number of different styles such as metal, future pop, aggrotech, synthpop, gothic rock, dark wave, and ebm. It is held annually on the second weekend of every August, in Hildesheim, Germany at Flugplatz Hildesheim-Drispenstedt, a former airbase. In the beginning it was a paralel event to Zillo festival and after 2000 became its successor. The name is a fantasy name that was supposed to sound appealing and international.

The M'era Luna includes camping facilities and has two stages: a large rock festival style structure, erected for the show each year, and a former aircraft hangar.

With its 20,000-25,000 regular attendants (21,000 in 2005, 23,000 in 2009, 24,000 in 2010) (many flying in via the Hanover airport, with others traveling via road and railway), the M'era Luna is one of the biggest dark music events in Germany.
