Striking white granite monument located in Westwood Park next to the former Township Hall in the Village of Westwood, ON.
The monument, which features a remarkable relief sculpture at it's top, was erected around 1920 by the Township of Asphodel "to Commemorate the deeds of our Sons and Daughters in the Great War 1914 - 1918"
The base features the names MONS and YPRES.
The front facing contains the epitaph
TO BURY DEEP THE SWORD
"They Died"
and the names of 22 soldiers
A Later list from 1939 - 1945 adds 5 more who died in the Second World War.
The reverse contains the phrase "Those Who Carried On"
and lists the names of 62 veterans who returned.
