In the Bosque de Agua García (Forest of Agua García), in the north-east of the island of Tenerife, you will find this small but interesting artificially made cave system.

In this place a rock of volcanic origin called trachyte was mined in the 16th century. From this rock one could gain quartz for the glass factory in La Laguna, which made the much needed wine bottles for the island. There was also a melting furnace in the forest. However, the degradation was stopped because the yield was too low. The trachyte, also called "white sand", contains only about 20% quartz.
