Myrtis Dightman

Admired cowboy and pioneer bull rider, born May 7, 1935, in Crockett, Texas. Myrtis began bull riding in 1960, and went on to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo seven times from 1964 to 1972.

> First African American to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo.

> First living African American cowboy inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma.

> Inducted into Texas Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2001.

> Inducted into National Cowboys of Color Museum and Hall of Fame in 2003.
